How to Crack Open A Coconut

20120209-091524.jpg

Three simple steps make opening a coconut a snap.

1. Open the eyes (dark spots) at the top of the coconut. Drain liquid into a glass.

2. Pilot 3-4 holes 1 cm apart running around the diameter.

3. Using a nail/spike, hammer into your pilot hole.

4. Coconut will crack open. If only partially open, use hands to bend (or nail) and crack connected portion.

That’s it!

P.s. Piloting holes with a proper bit only helps direct the nail and prevent slippage. Not 100% necessary. It can help ensure it cracks it the direction you intend.
